Very little is known about Gjon Buzuku's life beyond what he himself wrote in the colophon of his book. He was born around 1499 and died around 1577. He was an Albanian Catholic priest who likely lived near Venice, where it is presumed his book was printed. On the last page of the "Meshari," he writes that he is the son of Bdek (Benedict) Buzuku, providing the only direct biographical information available.
